MEDICAL CITY HOSPITAL NURSE TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Medical City today announced that Kathy Walton, MBA, BSEd, RN, CPN has been invited to participate in the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) 2009 Nurse Manager Fellowship. Walton is one of only 31 nurse managers nationwide to be selected and is the only nurse manager from Texas to be selected as a 2009 Fellow. The first of its kind, the AONE Nurse Manager Fellowship is a year-long program designed to educate and develop the next generation of nursing executives. The curriculum will focus on three main areas:
Fellows end the program by completing an individual Capstone project, similar to a thesis paper, which further explores one of the three areas. Comprised of notable nursing leaders, the faculty interacts with fellowship participants at quarterly leadership retreats and in virtual learning settings. "We are extremely proud that Kathy was selected to participate in this highly competitive and prestigious professional development program," said Cole Edmonson, RN, MS, FACHE, NEA-BC, vice president and chief nurse executive at Medical City. "Her selection speaks to Kathy's natural leadership abilities, our commitment to leadership development and the quality of service she provides to patients, physicians and staff every day." Fellows were chosen based on several criteria including written answers to three essay questions, a detailed Capstone project proposal, and a letter of reference and support from their sponsoring organization's chief nurse executive.
